Jake Michael Singer (born 1991, Johannesburg) is a transdisciplinary artist whose practice is primarily concerned with materiality, myth, and catharsis. Singer held a solo exhibition titled ‘Ten Thousand Things’ during the Istanbul Biennale at the 1600-year-old Yedikule Hisarı. In 2021, Singer produced a large-scale site-specific installation, ‘The Bennu Stasis,’ at the Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hamamı in Istanbul.

The artist has had solo exhibitions in galleries in New York, Toronto, Johannesburg, and Amsterdam. Singer has also participated in notable group shows at institutions and public spaces such as the Norval Foundation, Iziko South African National Gallery, Nirox Foundation, Zeitz MOCAA, Rupert Museum, Kampala Biennale curated by Simon Njami, St Antoine Church, Redbull Hangar 7, and Dubai International Financial Centre.Singer holds a degree from Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town (2013) and has studied at Central Saint Martins, London. He is the recipient of the Eduordo Vila Foundation Grant in 2016 and 2017. Public sculptures include Merzigo Murmur (Istanbul 2022), Twoism DIFC Dubai (2021), Dawn Chorus (2019) on the RMB Think Precinct (Johannebsurg, 2019) and Roarks Evacuation Plan (August House, 2016). Singer has completed residencies in Istanbul, Amsterdam and Kampala. In 2020, during COVID, Singer founded the Emergence Art Prize with Rand Merchant Bank in support of emerging artists in South Africa. This coming year Singer will participate in Dakar Biennale 2024 and Art D’Egypte.
